Hi there – reformatting the C drive is quite the process. I’ve started a few blog posts on it but never got through it due to all of the possible variations. In short, make a backup of everything on your computer you want to keep. Run Killdisk to wipe out the drive you want to clean. Reinstall the OS from your disk or recovery partition. Completely update the OS via online updater. Put your data back on. Hopefully you can fill in the blanks from there. I’m sure there are other good tutorials out on Google, too. Good luck!

With little knowledge about computers I like to know the procedure for how to format C drive and how to format complete pc in order to get it faster. I have windows 95 ,it was overhauled . when i turned it on it showed a box saying enter password, so I entered a password and it went to a black screen and stated enter password so i did , it keeps asking for password . I cant get out of the blk. screen

after I did the above I remembered it is like my laptop.I dont enter a password and hit enter and it works.

I hop you can share some advise.

If your computer will boot to the floppy drive, then Killdisk should be able to work, assuming your hard drive is good still. You could be getting a black screen due to a bad hard drive or motherboard, or there are numerous other possibilities. It’s worth a shot, though.

IS THERE ANYWAY TO USE KILLDISK IF MY SCREEN IS BLACK WHEN BOOTING UP, I CAN ONLY SEE A LITTLE IF I USE A FLASH LIGHT. I HAVE DOWNLOADED THE KILL DRIVE TO A FLOPPY DISK. WILL IT DO ITS JOB IF I LOAD INTO FLOPPY ON LAPTOP WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING ELSE??

Yes, you are the Computer Queen ….lol Gr8 post I must say i have never heard of Kill Disk Hard Drive Eraser before . I'm always backing up my files and trying to get my computer back to working correctly. Even now it seems to be slow. I tip my hat off to you Heather….You Rock!
